Michael Qaqish served as City Councillor for Gloucester – South Nepean from 2014-2018.
He was Vice-Chair of the Transit Commission and a member of the Community and Protective Services Committee, Environment and Climate Protection Committee, Transportation Committee and the Ottawa Board of Health.
Qaqish fought to extend LRT to the heart of Riverside South. He was instrumental in securing land and funding for a new community centre and library complex, as well as a police station in Barrhaven adjacent to the Carleton Lodge.
Council appointed Qaqish as the City’s Special Liaison for Refugee Resettlement where he led city efforts to integrate close to 3,000 Syrian newcomers to Ottawa.
He also served as Co-Chair for the City’s United Way Campaign raising thousands of dollars for Ottawa charities.
Qaqish hosts a current affairs radio show with CHIN Radio Ottawa 97.9FM and has been a regular contributor to the both print and TV media outlets over the years.
Qaqish founded the Kiwanis Club of Barrhaven and was the club’s first president.
Born in Toronto, Qaqish graduated with a Psychology degree from Carleton University.
